THE CENTRAL Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in a statement, Friday said that it coordinated the return of two accused persons wanted by police in Gujarat and Kerala, with the help of INTERPOL.
The International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU) of the CBI coordinated with NCB-Abu Dhabi in bringing back Tofik Najir Khan and Suhail Basheer from the UAE, said the statement.
The CBI statement said that Khan was wanted by the Gujarat Police in a criminal case registered at Bavlu Police Station, in Kadi, Mehsana district of Gujarat, for the alleged offences of criminal conspiracy, forgery, and cheating.
Basheer was wanted by Kerala Police in a case registered at Muvattupuzha police station, Ernakulam rural district, on the allegations of the rape of a minor girl under the Protection of Child from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He had been absconding since the case was registered, said the police.
The two were sent from the UAE to India on April 2 via the Cochin International Airport. CBI had got the Red Notice published through INTERPOL in Khan’s case on February 25 at the request of Gujarat Police, and on December 2, 2024, for Basheer at the Kerala Police’s request.
An escort team of Kerala Police landed at the airport with both the fugitives.
