Chief Minister Anandiben Patel Tuesday addressed a public gathering at Magdalla area of Surat city while campaigning for the BJP for the bypoll of Choryasi assembly constituency. The by-poll was necessitated following the death of BJP MLA Raja Patel, who died of dengue in August last year.
While BJP fielded Raja Patel’s daughter Jankhana Patel for the seat, opposition Congress fielded Dhansukh Rajput, a councillor of Surat Municipal Corporation. Tuesday was the last day of campaigning and Anandiben Patel’s was the only major public rally organised by either of the two rival political parties. The candidates have relied mainly on door-to-door campaigning.
In her address, the CM said that the Congress candidate will face the “hat-trick” of defeats at the hand of the BJP candidate.
“The Congress candidate has till now fought a local assembly election and a Parliament election and in both the elections he had been defeated by the BJP candidate and this time he is contesting for the third time and we are sure that it will be hat-trick defeat of the Congress candidate. Our candidate is a woman contesting on the general seat against the male candidate,” Patel said.
The CM also referred to the starting of work for the Metro Rail project in Ahmedabad recently and added that similar project has been sanctioned for Surat also.
“…We have started working on the Metro rail project in Ahmedabad. We have also declared similar metro rail project in Surat and the contract has been given to the same company. The project will be finished in different phases and will be completed in ten years. This will reduce the traffic problems in the city,” she said.
