Partys two-day executive meeting begins amid tight security and with potshots at Congs anti-terror policy
The two-day-long state BJPs executive committee meeting started here on Saturday with its major focus on strengthening the partys roots and gain more seats in the Assembly elections due in December 2012.
Calling the 2012 Assembly elections as Mangal Mission and Lok Sabha polls due in 2014 as Maha Mission,the executive committee members discussed the agenda of focusing on corruption and terror attacks,which have allegedly increased in the Congress-led government at the Centre.
An anti-inflation resolution was also passed during the meet in which Chief Minister Narendra Modi,state BJP president R C Faldu,Purshotam Rupala,Balbir Punj,local MP Balkrishna Shukla and others were present.
The meeting chaired by Modi was held at Satyam Shivam Sundaram hall in Karelibaugh area and a large number of party workers attended the event being held in Vadodara after a gap of 13 years.
Addressing the media before the beginning of the meet,state BJP party spokesperson I K Jadeja said the party had gained the support of the people because it worked for development of the state.
During the meeting,we will touch upon the issues that matter to the development of the state. We will also discuss ways to increase our number of seats and to reach out to grassroots workers. We welcome people who want to join us and who believe in the development in the state, Jadeja said.
Meanwhile,the otherwise bustling area of Karelibaugh wore a deserted look amid a heavy police bandobast and traffic police preventing even passers-by from approaching the venue of the meeting.
Cong leader calls BJPs bluff
In a major embarrassment to the BJP,Congress leader from Varsada,Raju Patel,who according to Faldu had joined the BJP,today said he was not even aware that he had switched sides. Some local BJP members had approached me a few days ago,but I had refused. I was surprised when I heard senior BJP leaders announcing my name among the people who had joined the BJP, Patel said.
