The Ahmedabad City Police on Thursday arrested four persons for allegedly gangraping a 15-year-old Dalit girl in May this year. The incident, allegedly took place on May 25, came to light only on Thursday when the girl informed her parents, leading to them lodging a complaint with police.
Citing the FIR, which is marked as sensitive, a police inspector said that one of the four accused persons was the friend of the minor and he allegedly invited her to his apartment in the afternoon of May 25.
The other three accused were present at the apartment, in the same society in which the minor also lives, when she reached there, the FIR said. The complaint stated that the accused allegedly gave her an intoxicating substance to drink. Her friend and others then allegedly raped her, the complaint said. They allegedly warned her of consequences if she informs anyone about the incident.
The four accused persons were booked under BNS Sections 64 (rape), 65(1) (punishment for rape), 70(I) (gangrape) and under POCSO sections 3(a), 4, 5(g), 6, 7, 8, 9(g), 10 and 17 and various sections of the Atrocity Act. The case was transferred to the SC/ST Cell of the Ahmedabad City Police, which on Thursday arrested all four accused. At least three of the four accused in the case live in the same society as the minor complainant.
The Indian Express has learnt that at least three of the four accused persons belong to the Scheduled Castes.The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, DySP Deep Patel, told The Indian Express, “We arrested all four accused persons and a detailed investigation is underway.”
