After 5-day camp, education department plans second round of painting contest

It is said that these events right from the first painting competition are planned by Chief Minister Anandiben Patel.

To assess the quality of training imparted through the five-day summer workshop to all the 616 winners of the painting competition titled ‘Mahatma Gandhi and cleanliness’ held on Gandhi’s death anniversary; January 30, across the state, the education department has planned to organise a second round of painting competition for these winners.

This time, it would be organised at one venue — Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar — on May 25 and 26 unlike the first competition that was held at all the schools in each district. The nodal agencies — Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training (GCERT) for schools and Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat (KCG) for colleges — have been entrusted upon the responsibility of ensuring students reach Mahatma Mandir before 9 am on May 25. “The idea is to assess how much the students could grasp from the workshops which was the first of such initiatives by the education department. Also, it will give students a second and a bigger platform to showcase their talent at the state-level,” revealed the education principal secretary Sudip Gulati.

The event is said to coincide with the ‘bal kavi sammelan’ which is also scheduled to be organised on May 25 and 26 at Mahatma Mandir. The entries for which were invited in April which were further scrutinised by the district committees of poets and literature experts. These were further scrutinised and ranked by a state-level committee to shortlist total 132 entries from each district. Further, the shortlisted students have also been trained by experts before appearing for the sammelan.

It is said that these events right from the first painting competition are planned by the Chief Minister Anandiben Patel.

For the painting competition, a total of 396 winners would participate from 33 districts – six each from primary and secondary and higher secondary classes from each district and 12 state-level winners. This time, both the winners and the award amount has been increased to first five winners and Rs 10,000 to Rs 5,000. While for college students, it would be first three winners to be awarded Rs 10,000 to Rs 7,000.

The residential or non-residential summer camp was organised at each district-level for which a committee of resource persons from fine arts colleges was constituted to design the training module. The District Institute for Education and Training (DIET) centres in each district took the charge of organising these camps for 594 winners from each district while the 22 state-level awardees joined at the summer camp organised at Sheth C N College of Fine Arts in Ahmedabad.
