A five-year-old girl was the sole survivor of a late-night road accident near Kutiyana on the Rajkot-Porbandar highway that claimed the lives of her parents and maternal uncle. The incident occurred around 10.30 pm on Sunday when their car struck a bridge barrier.
The deceased were identified as Malde Bhaya Bhutiya (32), his wife Aasha Bhutiya, and Aasha’s brother, Jaymal Vijanand Odedara (33). Police said the family had travelled to Rajkot as Aasha was scheduled to appear for a government examination for the post of talati. After the exam, the family began their return journey to Porbandar.
Their car met with the accident before reaching home. Malde, Aasha, and Jaymal succumbed to their injuries on the spot. Their daughter, Naitiki Bhutiya, sustained head injuries but survived. She was immediately shifted to a local hospital in Porbandar, where doctors later said her condition was stable.
Based on a complaint filed by the maternal uncle of Aasha and Jaymal, an FIR has been registered against Malde Bhutiya for rash driving.
The FIR stated that when Aasha and Jaymal’s uncle, Keshu Kadegiya, reached the government hospital in Kutiyana after being informed about the accident, the three adults had already been declared dead while the child was under treatment.
The bodies were sent for postmortem.
Inspector V P Parmar of Kutiyana police station said that the child’s condition had been serious due to the head injury, but she was improving.
