Two three-year-old girls drowned after accidentally falling in the swimming pool of a residential society in the posh Gangotri Park of Rajkot late on Sunday evening.
The incident took place at around 9 pm on Sunday when the two girls —identified as Prakruti Chand and Menuka Singh —fell in the swimming pool of Shilpan Onyx, an upmarket residential society, and drowned, the University police said.
“The two girls fell in the swimming pool accidentally while they were playing near the pool,” Chirag Jadav, a police inspector in charge of the University police station of Rajkot city police, told The Indian Express on Monday.
“Parents started searching for them after they were not seen near their quarters for a while. Eventually, they were found floating in the swimming pool,” he added.
D R Ratnu, police sub-inspector of Gandhigram police station, said, “The two girls were rushed to state government-run Zanana Hospital, where they were declared dead.” Prakrui and Meghna were daughters of Nepal nationals Gokul Chand and Prakash Singh, repsectively, who work as gatekeepers of the high-rise buildings in the society, he added.
Harshal Sevak, one of the residents of Shilpan Onyx society, said the incident took place after members of the society who were in the society’s common area went to an in-house movie theatre at around 9.30 pm.
“One of the girls was found floating in the swimming pool. She was immediately pulled out and emergency services were called. Later, something resembling a piece of cloth was observed in the pool, and it became clear that another girl had also drowned in the pool,” Sevak told the media.
