Three people, including two brothers, were killed after a late-night brawl between two groups over a “damaged vehicle” turned violent in the Ambedkarnagar area of Rajkot, Gujarat shortly after midnight on Diwali on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Suresh Vasram Parmar and Vijay Vasram Parmar from one group, and Arun Vinu Barot from the other. Police said one person from each side — Raman Barot, brother of deceased Arun, and Sudhir Parmar, son of deceased Vijay — sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment in hospital. The brawl erupted between 12:30 am and 12:45 am.
Cross FIRs have been filed by both survivors at the Malaviya Nagar police station.
DCP Jagdish Bangarwa of the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Rajkot City Police said, “Arun Barot was drunk and was driving his car very fast next to where the other group of people were standing near their house. During this fast driving, he hit the two-wheeler parked outside the home of the Parmars. There was an altercation between two groups that spiralled into violence. More people joined the fight, leading to the deaths of three men.”
ACP (South) B J Chaudhari, in a statement to the media on Monday morning, said, “The fight over the hitting of the bike escalated into one where knives, bats and sticks were used in the fight between the two groups. Three men are dead and two are in the hospital. We are… investigating using CCTV footage and questioning all suspects, several of whom have already been detained.”
In the FIR filed by Sudhir Vijay Parmar against the Barots, the accused include Arun Vinu Barot, his brother Raman, and three unidentified persons. They have been booked for murder, attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, unlawful assembly, rioting, and voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
The FIR filed by Raman Vinu Barot against the Parmars names the deceased brothers Suresh and Vijay, as well as Sudhir Parmar and two unidentified individuals, under similar charges, including murder, attempt to murder, and voluntarily causing grievous hurt under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
