With 11 candidates from the state having cleared UPSC examination this year, the number of total candidates having passed the examination after getting training from the government-run Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) has touched 100 now.
Set up in 1992 to ensure more candidates from Gujarat were able to join central civil services, the institute selects 100 candidates annually after screening through written tests and interviews.
SPIPAs joint director Dinesh Patel said a total of 76 candidates had cleared preliminary examinations in UPSC-2012 and 32 candidates cleared the mains. But only 11 passed the interview held in April 2013.
The number of successful candidates from Gujarat has been increasing over the years,he said.
However, according to Patel, there was only one candidate selected in each of 1999,2002 and 2005 from the state.
No candidate from Gujarat cleared the exam in 1996.
