In spite of the suspension of full-service carrier Jet Airways in March earlier this year, domestic air traffic has grown by 3.11 per cent in the past year (September 2018 to October 2019), according to data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in a circular on Monday.
The data states that 11.46 crore passengers travelled within India from January-October 2018, with that number increasing to 11.82 crore passengers during the January-October 2019 period.
The aviation regulatory body also released data on which airline recorded the highest on-time performance, market share and airports that saw the most on-time flight traffic.
According to the data, IndiGo enjoys the highest market share in the domestic airline market at 47 per cent, followed by SpiceJet at 14.6 per cent, Air India at 12.9 per cent, Go Air at 10.6 per cent, Air Asia at 6.1 per cent and Vistara at 5 per cent.
GoAir recorded the highest percentage of on-time performance in October 2019 at 79.9 per cent, with Air India recording the lowest at 54.3 per cent, according to data collected from four major airports in the country, namely New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
