An Air India Express flight from Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirapalli airport failed to take off Wednesday after developing technical issues. The airline confirmed the incident and said an alternative aircraft was arranged to fly out the passengers.

“One of our flights from Tiruchirappalli could not operate due to a technical issue. An alternative aircraft was arranged, and the flight has since departed. Guests have been provided with meals and offered the choice of a full refund on cancellation or complimentary rescheduling. We regret the inconvenience,” an Air India Express spokesperson said.

The incident comes days after a Delhi to Indore Air India flight returned to the national capital shortly after take off as the pilot received a “fire indication” in the right engine of the aircraft. In that instance, the cockpit crew decided to shut down the engine and returned to Delhi where the flight landed safely, following standard procedure, the airline said.

Last month, Congress secretary and MP K C Venugopal had taken to social media to describe his flight journey on August 10, which “began as a delayed departure turned into a harrowing journey“. The Air India flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi was instead flown to Chennai after a suspected technical issue. The plane was carrying several Members of Parliament.
