Vishnu Dayal Ram is a policeman turned political leader from Jharkhand and a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) member. He is the incumbent member of the parliament of Jharkhand’s Palamau constituency. He was born on July 23, 1951, in Nainijor, Buxar, Bihar, to Late Shri Mukha Ram and Late Smt. Ramrati Devi. He completed his B.A. from Patna University.
His remarkable career in the Indian Police Service (IPS) began in 1973. He served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bhagalpur and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Patna, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order.
His exceptional service led to his appointment as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand state, a position he held twice. His leadership was instrumental in curbing Naxal activities in the state, contributing significantly to the region’s peace and stability.
After retiring from the police service, Ram ventured into politics, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He won the 2014 Lok Sabha election from the Palamu constituency. He retained his seat once again in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, securing his second consecutive term in the lower house of the Indian Parliament.
