Sushil Kumar Modi
Sushil Kumar Modi is the deputy chief minister of Bihar and a member of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). Previously he held the office of deputy chief minister and finance minister of Bihar from 2005 to 2013. Born in January 1952, Modi has been a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since his early years. Modi's political career began while he was in college and was general secretary of the student's union in 1973. During the early days of his political career, Modi was part of the student's movement in Bihar in 1974 and was also arrested five times during the Emergency. Modi also played an active role in mobilising school students during the Sino-Indian war of 1962. Modi's active role in Indian politics began in 1990 when he contested from the Patna Central Assembly and won. He was leader of opposition of the State Assembly from 1996 to 2004. In 2004 he also won a seat in the Lok Sabha from Bhagalpur constituency. When in 2005 BJP came to power in Bihar, Modi was made the leader of the Bihar BJP legislative party.
