Mahesh Sharma is a prominent BJP leader and MP from Gautam Buddh Nagar. The 55-year-old, who emerged as one the richest candidates in the 2014 elections in UP with declared assets of over Rs 47 crore.
Union minister Mahesh Sharma, who retained the Gautam Budh Nagar Lok Sabha seat for BJP with a 3.3 lakh vote margin, saw a 40% increase in his urban vote share in 2019 Lok Sabha polls. As per the Election Commission data, of the 13.9 lakh votes polled, Sharma managed 8,30,812 votes while his nearest rival, BSP’s Mahagatbandhan candidate Satveer Nagar, obtained 4,93,890 votes. He went on to retain his seat once again in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Born on 30th September, 1959 in Alwar’s Manethi village, Mahesh Sharma grew up in a family with farming background. His father, Kailash Chand Sharma, was a school teacher, and his mother a housewife.
In March, 2012, he got elected as MLA from Noida Legislative Assembly Constituency, Uttar Pradesh. It was a massive win with a huge margin of over 27,000 votes. Two years later, in May, 2014, he got elected as MP from Gautam Buddha Nagar Parliamentary constituency, Uttar Pradesh. Again, the victory was momentous where Sharma earned 50 per cent of the votes in the district. Making a ground-breaking achievement, it was the first time that any candidate in Gautam Buddha Nagar Lok Sabha constituency won in all five Vidhan Sabha Constituencies falling under it.
