Kumbakudi Sudhakaran, born on 7th June 1948, is a prominent figure in the political landscape of Kerala, India. He is currently serving as the president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and a member of Parliament (MP), Lok Sabha, from Kannur, Kerala.
He was born in a small village called Nadal in Kannur district to his parents, Shri V. Ramunni and Smt. K. Madhavi. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in History, Master of Arts, and Bachelor of Laws from Government Brennen College, Thalassery.
His political journey began with his election to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1996, representing the Kannur constituency. He served as an MLA until 2009, demonstrating his commitment to his constituents and his ability to address their concerns effectively.
In 2001, he was appointed as the Minister for Forest and Wildlife in the Government of Kerala. His tenure lasted until 2004, during which he implemented several initiatives aimed at preserving Kerala’s rich biodiversity.
Sudhakaran’s political career took a significant turn in 2009 when he was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from Kannur. He defeated K. K. Rajesh of CPIM by a margin of 43151 votes. In 2019, Sudhakaran was re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from Kannur, where he defeated P.K.Sreemathy of CPIM by a margin of 94,559 votes.
