Homeland, an American espionage thriller, follows CIA officer Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and Marine Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), a POW held captive by al-Qaeda. Mathison suspects Brody has been turned by the enemy, posing a significant threat to US national security. The series unfolds from this central premise, exploring Mathison's covert operations and Brody's complex psychological state. Developed by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa, based on the Israeli series Prisoners of War, Homeland premiered on Showtime in October 2011. Its initial release involved an online game preceding the television broadcast. The series concluded after eight seasons in April 2020, earning widespread critical acclaim, particularly in its first two seasons. Homeland garnered numerous awards, including Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series - Drama (2011 and 2012) and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series (2012). Lead actors Danes and Lewis received multiple Emmy nominations, with Danes winning twice for Outstanding Lead Actress and Lewis once for Outstanding Lead Actor.
