Gangasandra Siddappa Basavaraj, known as G. S. Basavaraj, is a prominent figure in the political landscape of Karnataka, particularly in the Tumkur constituency. He was born on May 4, 1941, in Gangasandra, Tumkur District, Karnataka.
His political journey began with the Indian National Congress (INC). However, in 2009, he severed ties with the INC and joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He has been elected to the Lok Sabha five times, in 1984, 1989, and 1999 as a member of the INC, and in 2009 and 2019 as a member of the BJP. He has served as a Member of the 8th, 9th, 13th, 15th, and 17th Lok Sabha. In the 2019 Indian general elections, he defeated former prime minister H. D. Deve Gowda by a margin of nearly 15,000 votes in the Tumkur Lok Sabha Constituency.
His influence extends beyond his political roles. He is known for his work in horticulture and organic farming. His efforts have contributed to the growth and development of the Tumkur constituency and the state of Karnataka.
