Ustad Ghulam Ali: A Legacy in Ghazal Ustad Ghulam Ali, born December 5, 1940, is a celebrated Pakistani ghazal singer from the Patiala Gharana, renowned for his unique blend of Hindustani classical music and ghazals. A disciple of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and his brothers, Ustad Ghulam Ali's style is instantly recognizable. His immense popularity spans Pakistan, India, and the South Asian diaspora globally. His contribution to Bollywood as a playback singer is significant, with many of his ghazals becoming iconic hits. Among his most celebrated works are "Chupke Chupke Raat Din," "Kal Chaudhvin Ki Raat Thi," and "Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa." His album "Hasratein" earned a nomination for Best Ghazal Album at the Star GIMA Awards 2014. While his 2015 concert in Mumbai was cancelled amidst protests, Ustad Ghulam Ali subsequently performed in several Indian cities, including Lucknow, New Delhi, Trivandrum, and Kozhikode, at the invitation of various Chief Ministers. He later stated his intention to return to India when the political climate was conducive to musical performances. His sons, Aamir Ghulam Ali and Nazar Ali Abbas, also pursue musical careers, carrying forward the family legacy.
