Bench-warmers to cash in on chance
India’s recent string of success – 3-0 win in Australia, win over Sri Lanka, run in Asia Cup – has barely allowed any room for experiments. That will change today.
It was expected that India team management would rest Rohit Sharma and/or Shikhar Dhawan for their respective injuries against Sri Lanka but it didn’t turn out to be the case. Against UAE, though, expect plenty of changes with most likely room for Harbhajan Singh and Pawan Negi to feature.
In the previous game, India beat Sri Lanka by 5-wickets
India were made to chase 139 by Sri Lanka and at one time it looked like an interesting game but for the familiar face of Virat Kohli to steer India home.
… Meanwhile UAE lost to Pakistan by 7 wickets
Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal both scored fifties for Pakistan’s first win in the tournament after a demoralising loss to India in the opener.
Virat Kohli finds it ‘nice’ to challenge himself
“It was another crunch situation (against Sri Lanka) as we were 16 for 2 in the fourth over. It’s nice to challenge yourself and I am happy to do that for the team,” said Kohli after the match against Sri Lanka.
Dhoni too was all praise for Virat
“Right from the start, he (Virat) was always someone who wanted to contribute more. Even if he would get out on 80, he was somebody who wanted to get that 100. If 80 was good enough and the team wins, he was happy with it. But he still wanted to contribute more. He knew the importance of converting those 70’s into hundreds. It’s not only good for the individual but it was also very good for the team,” said Dhoni full of praise for Kohli.
