Nirmala Hits Out: “Congress Wants 5% GST on Tobacco?”

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman slammed the Congress Party during a press briefing after the 56th GST Council meeting, questioning whether it was demanding a mere 5% GST on harmful products like tobacco and gutkha. She criticized Congress for previously calling GST implementation "impossible" and highlighted that under PM Modi’s leadership, not only was GST implemented, but second-generation reforms are also underway to benefit common citizens, MSMEs, and labour-intensive sectors. Sitharaman called out the opposition’s double standards and warned that the public would soon see through their confusion tactics and expose them.
