Kapil Sibal On Umar Khalid: At a press conference, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal sharply criticised the judiciary over the prolonged incarceration of activist Umar Khalid. He highlighted that despite the High Court’s recent 133-page judgment denying bail and declaring that the right to protest is not absolute, the larger injustice lies in Khalid and others spending nearly five years in jail without trial. Sibal called it a failure of the judicial process and a blow to democratic rights.
