US Judge Blocks Trump Administration From Cutting Harvard’s $2.2 Billion in Research Grants

A US federal judge ruled the Trump administration unlawfully terminated $2.2 billion in research grants to Harvard University and barred it from cutting or freezing additional funding. Judge Allison Burroughs said the administration used antisemitism “as a smokescreen” for an ideologically driven attack, violating Harvard’s free-speech rights. The White House accused Harvard of failing Jewish students and vowed to appeal, calling the judge “activist.” Harvard’s president praised the decision as a defense of academic freedom. The ruling temporarily halts a high-stakes political fight over the future of research funding at one of America’s leading universities.
