Russia Slams US and EU Sanctions as Counterproductive, Says Peace in Ukraine Hindered

Russia has strongly criticized the energy sanctions imposed by the United States, calling them extremely counterproductive to efforts aimed at securing peace in Ukraine. Speaking in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that despite the sanctions, Russia’s objectives in Ukraine remain unchanged. Zakharova also described European Union sanctions as “not working”, emphasizing that current measures fail to address the root causes of the conflict, which she said must be resolved to achieve lasting peace. The Russian ministry’s comments signal Moscow’s growing frustration with Western pressure as the war in Ukraine continues, highlighting the ongoing geopolitical tension surrounding energy exports and international diplomacy.
