Mayor Bass Slams Federal Troop Deployment In L.A. After Partial Withdrawal

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass on Tuesday called the partial withdrawal of federal troops a “victory,” slamming their deployment as unnecessary and political. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered 2,000 of 4,000 National Guard troops to leave, claiming mission success. But Bass said the unrest was minor and short-lived, calling L.A. a “test case.” She demanded full withdrawal of the remaining 2,000 Guard troops and 700 Marines. President Trump had deployed forces in June after ICE raids sparked protests, overruling California’s governor. The move triggered a national debate on military use against civilians.
