Madagascar’s Military Takes Charge: Randrianirina Sworn In as President After Rajoelina Flees

Madagascar Crisis: Madagascar has entered a new political chapter. After weeks of deadly protests and the ousting of President Andry Rajoelina, army colonel Michael Randrianirina has officially been sworn in as the nation’s new president. Rajoelina fled the country amid unrest over power and water shortages that killed more than 20 people. The ceremony was held at the High Constitutional Court in Antananarivo, attended by international delegations and youth-led protest leaders. Randrianirina has promised civilian-led governance and elections within two years — but concerns remain over the legitimacy of his rise and Madagascar’s democratic future.
