AI on the Battlefield: Pakistan Defence Minister Khwaja Asif Ali Issues Stark Warning at UN

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif warned of alarming new risks in warfare, citing the recent India-Pakistan conflict where, for the first time, autonomous munitions and high-speed dual-capable cruise missiles were deployed by one nuclear-armed state against another. Speaking on AI’s role in lowering the threshold for war, he cautioned that such technologies make conflicts more feasible and compress decision-making windows, leaving little room for diplomacy. He urged that the UN Charter and international law govern AI’s development and use.
