Heena Sidhu, 26, is married into a family of shooters. Her husband Ronak, and her coach, had won a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and her father-in-law Ashok is a multiple Commonwealth Games medallist. She had early exposure to guns with her uncle running a business dealing with guns so she would watch them being repaired and customised. With a degree in dentisty, Heena has taken to wine as a new hobby. She also admits that she’s not into shooting because of the thrill but because of the simple science behind it. “I’m not really a shooter at heart. What I like about the sport is the science behind it. It’s all maths and physics. Then there’s psychology. That’s what fascinates me,” she had told Indian Express.
Career Highlights: Heena won a gold medal at the 2013 World Cup in Munich, silver medal at the 2009 World Cup in Beijing, silver at the 2014 World Cup in Fort Benning, silver at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, silver at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou and a gold with Annu Raj Singh in 2010 Commonwealth Games (all in 10m air pistol). At the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, she bagged a bronze medal in the 25m air pistol (team) event.
Record: At the 2012 London Olympics, Heena finished 12th in the qualification round to lose medal hopes. In 2013 she had shot a score of 384 in the preliminaries and a high tally of 203.8 in the final round to become a world record holder
