Vijender Singh scaled new heights in his successful professional boxing career when he beat Kerry Hope by a unanimous verdict at the Thyagraj Stadium in the capital.
Vijender Singh took all ten rounds to dismantle the 34-year-old Welsh-born Australian Kerry Hope and record his seventh consecutive win in professional boxing after switching from amateur boxing last year.
The win was the longest Vijender has been stretched in pro boxing and the first points win after winning all his matches by knockouts before this.
Vijender had many big names by the ringside from politicians like Rahul Gandhi and Rajeev Shukla, sportspersons in Suresh Raina, Virendra Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and folks from entertainment industry such as Randeep Hooda, Neha Dhupia, Ranvijay to name a few.
This was Vijender's first title bout in professional boxing with the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight title on the line.
Vijender wore his usual robe adorning the tricolour and received a loud ovation when he came out.
Vijender seemed to be looking for a knockout blow from the very beginning even though Kerry was the more attacking of the two.
Kerry Hope tried his best early on but just could not find a way to breach Vijender's defence, hampered to an extent by his shorter arms.
Even before the final verdict could be announced, Vijender's trainer Bernard Lee carried him in his arms in celebration.
