The Euro 2016 kicked off in Paris with a grand opening ceremony. Before the first match between France and Romania, the ceremony was watched by thousands of fans. The performers were also mega stars. The opening ceremony of Euro 2016 displayed France rich heritage and the country's most recognisable tower - the Effiel. It was a dummy. But many fans cheered as the performers awed them with their shows. (Source: Reuters)
France were playing Romania and the local fans were all geared up Europe's biggest tournament. After the end of the match, the locals fans were celebrating. They had the reason. France began their tournament with a 2-1 win over Romania and it was not a dull match that one usually sees at the opening of a tournament. (Source: Reuters)
The match had everything. Fouls, cards, goals, misses, cheers, booes. Both teams attacked in the first half but failed to break the deadlock. (Source: AP)
And then Olivier Giroud did. He had his chances but wasn't able to finish them. Dimitri Payet, like so many times, once again gave a ball to Giroud and he jumped over the keeper and put France ahead in the 58th minute. (Source: AP)
Romania, who had troubled France, need a chance. They did get many but were not able to finish them. In the 64th minute though, Patrick Evra tackled Nicolae Stanciu inside the box but was a bad tackle resulting conceding a penalty for France. (Source: Reuters)

France were playing at home and they knew they needed three points from the game and not the one. Dimitri Payet who had been phenomenal on Friday stepped up. In the 89th minute of the match, he took a hit from just outside the box. (Source: AP)
That strike flew. It went to the top corner giving the Romania keeper no chance to stop it. Dimitri Payet's sensational strike had giving France a 2-1 lead which will be there till the end of the match, giving them a win their first Euro 2016 match. (Source: AP)
