UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had toured the facility two days ago. The hospital is in the CM's Lok Sabha constituency. He had surveyed the children's ward on his visit.

CM Adityanath had inaugurated, among other facilities, a six-bed CCU. He had also called on a children's ward reserved for patients suffering from the Japanese encephalitis virus as well as Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) cases.

"No death in BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, has taken place due to shortage of oxygen supply," said Rajeev Rautela, Gorakhpur DM, adding that only seven deaths have occurred at the hospital today which were caused by different medical reasons.

The lack of oxygen supply was reportedly due to payment not having gone through to vendors. Rautela said that additional oxygen cylinders have been called in from adjoining district.
