2014 was the year for love and in keeping with that, we had quite a few celebrations this year. Extravagant weddings, the gorgeous clothes and jewellery, the impressive guest list and of course the beautiful couples. Here are a few of the most-talked about weddings of 2014.
Arpita Khan-Aayush Sharma: The youngest sister of Salman Khan, Arpita tied the knot to Delhi-based fiance Aayush Sharma on November 18, in an extravagant wedding ceremony held at the Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad. The wedding venue is said to have cost a whopping Rs 2 crore per day and the family is reported to had booked it for five days. And it was attended by the who's who of Bollywood.
Arpita Khan-Aayush Sharma: Any Indian wedding is incomplete without pre-wedding rituals and here we saw the pics of Arpita and Aayush's mehendi and sangeet, followed by a grand reception in Mumbai after the wedding in Hyderabad. Being Salman Khan's baby sister of course, the wedding was attended by the who’s who of the film industry including Aamir Khan, former flame Katrina Kaif, Karan Johar, Priyanka Chopra and Mika Singh among others. But what was most-talked about was that frenemy Shah Rukh Khan also took part in the celebrations and a picture of both Salman and Shah Rukh kissing Arpita went viral, thrilling fans to see their favourite stars together.
Arpita Khan-Aayush Sharma: The Khan family were super-excited to celebrate Arpita and Aayush’s special day, especially since they were having a family wedding after almost 16 years. Salman Khan along with father Salim Khan, had invited leading politicians, sportspersons and industrialist for the ceremony. Pictures of Arpita’s three brothers – Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail performing at the wedding also made it to the internet.
Arpita Khan-Aayush Sharma: Shah Rukh Khan also attended Arpita’s grand reception in Mumbai. Not only was the Baadshah the perfect guest, but was said to be more like a part of the family as he escorted guests and posed for pictures with the Khandaan.
Rani Mukerji-Aditya Chopra: Actress Rani Mukerji and filmmaker Aditya Chopra celebrated their love in an intimate wedding ceremony in Italy on April 21. The couple was earlier scheduled to marry in February at Umaid Bhavan in Udaipur, however, due to Rani’s work commitments, the wedding was postponed. Though Rani and Aditya always kept their relationship private, Rani was often seen at the Chopra residence.
Dia Mirza- Sahil Sangha: Bollywood beauty Dia Mirza married her longtime beau and business partner, Sahil Sangha on October 18 in a lavish ceremony at a farmhouse in Ghittorni, New Delhi. Prior to the wedding, the couple hosted a grand mehendi and sangeet. The actress was the epitome of beauty and elegance in a Ritu Kumar beige and green crreation, while Sahil sported a Raghavendra Rathore creation – an off white silk linen brocade ‘achkan’.
The wedding ceremonies were attended by family and close friends inlcuding Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta with husband Mahesh Bhupathi, Rajkumar Hirani, Zayed Khan, Sophie Choudry and Cyrus Sahukar. Boman Irani is said to have given Dia away at the wedding.
Ahana Deol-Vaibhav Vora: Hema Malini and Dharmendra’s youngest daughter Ahana Deol married Delhi-based businessman Vaibhav Vora in a big fat Punjabi wedding on February 2. Two receptions were hosted by the parents - one in New Delhi that had the crème de la crème including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and megastar Amitabh Bachchan. While Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Rekha as well as business tycoons were seen in the Mumbai reception. The bridal couple looked beautiful together - Ahana Deol was beautiful in a peach Manish Malhotra lehenga while Vaibhav Vora was handsome in a black sherwani.
John Abraham-Priya Runchal: After a very public relationship with actress Bipasha Basu, John Abraham married investment banker Priya Runchal in a secret ceremony. It was said to be an extremely private affair with only close friends and family in attendance. John Abraham took to Twitter to share the big news with his fans. "Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed 2014! May this year bring you love, good fortune and joy. Love, John and Priya Abraham,” he had posted.
Gaurav Kapur-Kirat Bhattal: Former VJ Gaurav Kapur married Kiral Bhattal in New Delhi on November 2. The wedding was attended by good friends Mini Mathur, Neha Dhupia, Maria Gorreti, Sandhya Mridul and Yuvraj Singh. Gaurav Kapur opted for a beige shervani and truban, whereas his beautiful bride wore traditional red and golden lehenga.
Nikitin Dheer-Kritika Sengar: The Chennai Express baddie wed TV actress Kritika on September 3. The marriage was attended by their family members and the reception hosted in the evening was attended by celebrities from the Indian Television and movie world – Ranvir Shorey, Konkana Sen Sharma, Kushal Tandon and Gauahar Khan.
Pulkit Samrat-Shweta Rohira: Pulkit Samrat and Shweta Rohira had a destination wedding in sunny Goa which was attended by Salman Khan, who is said to be the bride’s Rakhi-brother. Genelia D’Souza, Riteish Deshmukh, Sohail Khan and Arbaaz Khan also attended the wedding which was followed by a grand reception in Mumbai.
Raageshwari Loomba-Sudhanshu Swaroop: Singer Raageshwari Loomba married London based lawyer Sudhanshu Swaroop on January 27 at a five star hotel in Mumbai. Raageshwari wore beautiful Indian traditional creations for the ceremonies and later donned a stunning gown with emerald green earrings.
Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt: Angelina Jolie tied the knot with her longtime partner Brad Pitt at a secret ceremony which was attended by their children. Angelina was absolutely stunning in an ivory coloured custom-designed wedding dress by Luigi Massi of Atelier Versace. While the dress was simple and elegant from the front, with a scoop neck, fitted ruched bodice and flowing bottom, the veil and back portion of the dress featured colourful drawings and scribblings by Jolie and Pitt’s six children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne.
Kim Kardashian-Kanye West: Reality star Kim Kardashian tied the knot to music mughal Kanye West in a blissful wedding as they exchanged vows on May 24 in Florence, Italy at Forte di Belvedere. Kim wowed in a custom-made Givenchy gown. Kanye wore a custom wedding tuxedo and baby North wore a custom Haute Couture dress matching Kim's.
George Clooney – Amal Alamuddin: Everybody waited with bated breath to see just which woman would bring the most eligible bachelor George Clooney's single days to an end. And finally, when he did settle down, boy did he do it in style! George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin tied the knot on September 27 in romantic Venice at the Grand Canal. The bride was a vision in a stunning Oscar de la Renta ivory beaded-tulle dress with Chantilly-lace appliqué. The guest list included names like Bono, Matt Damon and Cindy Crawford.
Sameera Reddy-Akshai Varde: Actress Sameera Reddy married Akshai Varde in an intimate ceremony on January 21 in Mumbai. The wedding was conducted in traditional Maharashtrian style with the bride looking stunning in a red and gold sari by Neeta Lulla.
Vir Das-Shivani Mathur: Funnyman Vir Das married his longtime girlfriend Shivani Mathur in Sri Lanka on October 19. Though the wedding was a private affair, it is said to have been quite a lavish occasion with a pool party, rock concert and sangeet ceremony followed by the pheras.
