Though known to have an extremely large heart and a huge fan following, Salman Khan has also made headlines for the wrong reasons. While we await the court's decision on the 2002 hit-and-run case in a few hours from now, here's a look at some of the controversies that the actor has been involved in.
1992: This was the year it all began when Salman Khan along with his ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ co-stars were accused of hunting endangered chinkara and blackbuck deer while shooting in Jodhpur.
2002: The actor had a major tryst with the law when his car allegedly rammed into a suburban bakery in the wee hours of the morning killing one person who was asleep on the pavement and injuring four. Salman Khan, 49, pleaded he was not driving the car at the time of mishap and that his driver Ashok Singh was behind the wheel. This has been corroborated by Singh who appeared as defence witness.
2002: That same year, he was accused of harassing Aishwarya Rai, his then girlfriend, after she walked out of the relationship. It was also said that Salman had physically assaulted the actress.
2003: The following year, Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi made news after the former allegedly threatened Vivek, who was said to be romantically involved with Aishwarya. At the time, Vivek Oberoi called for a press conference, making the news public.
2008: He also got into a brawl with Shah Rukh Khan at his then girlfriend Katrina Kaif's birthday that year, following which the two Khans were at a cold war for many yeats. However, they made peace at Salman’s sister Arpita Khan’s wedding functions last year.
2010: Salman Khan faced a lot of flak after making statements in an interview to a Pakistani channel that the 26/11 attacks were hyped because 'elite people' were targeted.
2014: Salman Khan was severely criticised for performing at Saifai Mahotsav, hosted by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, in the backdrop of communal clashes in Muzaffarnagar district of the the state. At that time, thousands of people were living in refugee camps without basic facilities.
2014: Salman was also criticized when he visited Sri Lanka and participated in a campaign for Mahinda Rajapakse before the presidential elections in the country.
