Bollywood actresses are constantly under the scanner especially when it comes to their fashion choices. Sometimes they ace the style quotient, while there are times when they do tend to disappoint just a tad. As 2014 comes to an end, we examine the year’s best looks in terms of style, elegance and creativity. Here’s a look at some of our Bollywood divas that made it to the Best Dressed list of 2014:
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: It’s been an absolutely fantastic year for this beauty queen. She blew us away with her red carpet looks at Cannes this year and had us impressed with her beautiful ethnic looks as well. When it comes to saris, Aishwarya mostly goes with her favourite designer, Sabyasachi and we think it works beautifully. Some events also saw her totally turn on the sexy charm in leather with black knee-high boots like she did at Glasgow. She surely is the yummiest mummy in town.
Priyanka Chopra: Actress and pop star Priyanka Chopra is a diva in every way. She surely knows what flatters her petite body and knows how to keep things interesting. Priyanka is mostly seen in feminine dresses with sky-high stilettos like the Blumarine number she wore to a film festival. We also love the Victoria Beckham number as well as the immaculate white cropped top by Alexander McQueen paired with a matching skirt. Lace also seems to work well on Priyanka.
Deepika Padukone: Apart from totally being on top of her game when it came to films this year, Deepika Padukone has us impressed with her various fashion avatars. Be it formal or casual, the actress does it in style with stunning gowns, figure-flattering dresses and ripped denims. An awards show saw the actress in a strapless soft-coloured Dior gown, while a festive occasion had Deepika go the desi route in a bright red sari. She looked dressed to kill in a black short number and when it came to casual avatars – Deepika rocked a pair of denims with a shimmery top and oxfords for a movie night. Another visit to the temple saw her in a floral kurta.
Sonam Kapoor: The stylista is solely responsible for creating a style awareness in Bollywood as it was only after her entry into the glam world, that other actresses started to pay more attention to what they wore. Sonam Kapoor is stylish, chic, and feminine and she sure knows her designer brands well. Her love for experimentation sets her apart. And of course her red carpet appearances at Cannes had us literally drooling – the beautiful lilac coloured Ellie Saab strapless gown and an Anamika Khanna creation. Another noteworthy desi outfit was a floral sari by Shehlaa, while an event saw her in gorgeous white Payal Singhal creation. But, Sonam was definitely ravishing in a red Shantanu And Nikhil lehenga that showed off her washboard abs.
Kangana Ranaut: Hailing from a small town, Kangana Ranaut herself has admitted to what importance she has given to become fashion conscious, in trying to create a niche for herself. This beauty has surpassed other actresses from the industry with her style and classy choices. Some of her best looks this year include her Anju Modi outfit at a film screening – the kuti paired with a tulle skirt certainly caught out attention. In terms of style and elegance, Kangana portrayed just that in a dress by her favourite designer brand – Burberry and a burgundy coloured blouse also by the same brand. Another outing saw her in a metallic grey skirt with embossed detailing and white blouse with silvery embroidery. Diwali had the fashionista in a gorgeous Sanjay Garg lehenga.
Anushka Sharma: This bubbly beauty is not much of a stylista, nor is she one to be spotted sporting the latest trends around town. However, when she is in fact spotted, Anushka has never really let us down, be it a decked up look that she is flaunting or an off-duty one. Her ‘PK’ promotions saw the actress in a lovely black skirt from The Circus and a white tank top with a tan belt and yet another saw her in a plaid dress with ankle-strap heels. She also picked a shimmery Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla sari with dark maroon lips and an updo for an event. A Burberry fashion show took us by surprise when she picked a stunning flowy belted number and booties by the fashion powerhouse. At an airport spotting her in a white blouse with faded denims.
Karisma Kapoor: Karisma Kapoor is labeled one of the most well-dressed women in Bollywood. This mummy has come a long way from her bushy eyebrows and huge hair days onscreen to a slender, stylish and effortless beautiful woman. Seen often in Indian wear, Karisma mostly picks creations by her favourite Indian designer – Manish Malhotra. At a recent wedding, Karisma was a vision in a beautiful white net sari by the designer, while yet another reception saw her in an elegant cream and gold Anita Dongre creation. For nights out on the town some of our favourites included a black mini dress, a shimmery top with bright red lips and a printed blouse with denims and heels.
Katrina Kaif: She is beautiful and sure does justice to anything she wears. Katrina doesn't shy away from showing off her long sexy pins in figure-flattering numbers and pretty feminine dresses. Movie screenings and casual outings have this beauty flaunting her enviable figure in simple skinny jeans. We simply loved her in this stylish white Tom Ford dress that she wore to a launch. The DvF printed number is another favourite with the nude coloured pumps. The actress also rocked a casual look in ripped jeans, a sleeveless top and gladiator sandals.
Kalki Koechlin: Unlike most Bollywood actresses, Kalki Koechlin is not only refreshing with her film choices but also her wardrobe picks. She is woman that clearly feels less is more and we agree! She can do both – dress up and dress down with ease and beauty. Kalki wowed us a stunning white creation by designer Manish Malhotra earlier this year and a classy sheer number that clearly showed us this lady is not afraid to bare. Another outing had her in a pale coloured sating blouse with black pants and matching shoes. A pretty and fun white lace number with blue pumps is what she picked for a film promotion and a black flowy skirt with a white blouse at a screening is also one of our favourite casual looks.
Kareena Kapoor: This is one actress who created waves with her size zero but we’re glad she’s healthier looking now. Her glowing complexion helps her carry off anything be it western outfits or Indian looks. She has sported a bohemian look on more than one occasion in a tank top and maxi skirt, but we much prefer her in this blue Paule Ka dress with the sash at the waist. The white Tarun Tahiliani creation is another stunning outfit that Kareena wore to a formal occasion. The beauty also goes the desi route in a sari at times and was spotted in a shirt with black pants with dark lipcolour on a night out with husband Saif Ali Khan.
