Congress exit poll results in Haryana: Surveys predict a clear majority for party

In the previous state assembly election in 2014, most polls predicted a decisive victory for the BJP.

After nearly a decade, the Congress party is projected to register a big win in the Haryana Assembly elections, with the party headed for a majority in the 90-member House, as per exit poll results announced on Saturday.

According to NDTV’s Poll of Polls, the party is set to win 55-62 seats, while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which was aiming to mark a hat-trick this time, was projected to win 20-32 seats.

The BJP, Congress, the INLD-BSP and the JJP-Azad Samaj Party alliances and the Aam Aadmi Party are the key parties contesting the polls. A total of 1,031 candidates were in the fray, including 101 women and 464 Independent nominees.

The top names in the fray are Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, BJP’s Anil Vij and O P Dhankar, Congress’s Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Vinesh Phogat, INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala and JJP’s Dushyant Chautala.

According to Dainik Bhaskar poll survey, the BJP is expected to get between 15-29 seats, Congress 44-54 seats and AAP 0-1 seats.

News 24’s poll of polls gave the Congress 55-62 seats and projected 18-24 seats for the BJP. Others are likely to get 0-4 seats.

The India Today-CVoter survey has predicted 50-58 seats for the Congress in Haryana, with the ruling BJP likely to win 20-28 seats. Former deputy CM Dushyant Chautala-led Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) is likely to win 0-2 seats in the state.

In the previous state assembly election in 2014, most polls predicted a decisive victory for the BJP — India Today had forecast 38 seats for the BJP, 36 for Congress, and 8 for other parties. Similarly, the ABP-C Voter had projected 72 seats for the BJP and 8 for Congress, while News 18-IPSOS estimated 75 seats for the BJP and 10 for Congress.
