Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency: Bathinda is one of the 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab, known as the stronghold seat of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) party.
Three-time MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal of Bathinda, from the SAD party, has been representing the constituency in the Lok Sabha since 2009, having won the elections in 2009, 2014, and 2019.
In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024, we will witness an electoral battle between AAP’s Gurmeet Singh Khudian and Lakha Sidhana, representing the SAD (Amritsar) party, with Bathinda scheduled to go into polls in the final 7th phase on June 1st, with the date of counting and announcement of results on June 4th.
Gurmeet Singh Khudian, from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is currently a member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly from the Lambi constituency and Cabinet Minister in the Government of Punjab.
Joining the AAP in July 2021 from Congress, Khudian won against the Patron of Shiromani Akali Dal for the Lambi constituency, Parkash Singh Badal, and defeated him by a margin of more than 11000 votes in the 2022 Punjab assembly elections.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the AAP announced Gurmeet Singh Khudian as its candidate from the Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab, against Lakha Sidhana from SAD.
Lakha Sidhana, a prominent figure in the farmers’ agitation of 2020, has been selected as the candidate from the Bathinda Lok Sabha seat by the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar).
Contesting as an independent candidate in the 2022 Punjab state elections from Maur in Bathinda district, Sidhana garnered more votes than candidates from established parties like the Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress, however, ultimately lost to the Aam Aadmi Party.
