In a historic victory for the 34-year-old Democrat Zohran Mamdani, the battle of New York City mayoral election culminated with his victory speech in Brooklyn where he directly addressed the US President Donald Trump and spoke about “hope” which New Yorkers are giving in the time of “darkness”. Mamdani is set to become the youngest mayor of New York which voted in a record number in over five decades.

During his fiery speech after defeating independent candidate and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, Mamdani trained his gun at the US president and raised an all-out attack against the Republican leader and his threats of restricting funds to New York City if Madani wins the election.

Mamdani said he has four words for President Donald Trump: “Turn the volume up.” The New York-mayor elect said, “Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you. Turn the volume up.” Addressing the Republican leader directly, Mamdani said, “To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.”

Speaking directly to Trump, the newly mayor-elect of New York City said, “We will hold bad landlords to account because the Donald Trumps of our city have grown far too comfortable taking advantage of their tenants. We will put an end to the culture of corruption that has allowed billionaires like Trump to evade taxation and exploit tax breaks.”

The crowd then cheered with several thunderous claps and made the most deafening roars yet as Mamdani spoke about hope and said New York will ‘be the light’ in darkness.

Adding to his fiery speech against Trump, Mamdani said, “We will stand alongside unions and expand labor protections because we know, just as Donald Trump does, that when working people have ironclad rights, the bosses who seek to extort them become very small indeed.”

Mamdani also spoke about being a Muslim and self-proclaimed socialist democratic, saying “The conventional wisdom would tell you that I am far from the perfect candidate. I am young, despite my best efforts to grow older. I am Muslim. I am a Democratic socialist. And most damning of all, I refuse to apologize for any of this.”
