The military attempted a coup in Turkey on Friday night. As the news took over Turkish media outlets, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan came out to give a speech using ‘FaceTime’. President Erdogan insisted that he still is in control of the country.

The Turkish President also urged people to come out on streets to mark a protest against military’s attempted coup.

“I urge the Turkish people to convene at public squares and airports. I never believed in a power higher than the power of the people.”

“There is no power higher than the power of the people,” the President said.

He also marked that the coup attempt is taken up by a minority faction within the military. He vowed that the culprits would meet a “necessary response”, according to Reuters.

President Erdogan also sounded confident that the attempted coup will be over within a “short time”.

“I certainly believe that coup plotters will not succeed,” he said.

He said that the act was encouraged by the “parallel structure”.

“The chain of command has been violated,” he added. “This is a step against the higher ranks by their superiors.”
