The White House on Friday criticised the Nobel Committee’s decision to award the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado instead of US President Donald Trump.
“President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will,” White House spokesman Steven Cheung said in a post on X.
“The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace,” he added.
Earlier on Friday, María Corina Machado was named the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, with the committee praising her as a “brave and committed champion of peace” who “keeps the flame of democracy burning during a growing darkness.”
The announcement was made by Jørgen Watne Frydnes, the head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo.
In the days running up to the Nobel Peace Prize announcement, Trump was vocal about how he deserves the award. He went as far as to say, “They [Nobel Committee] will give it to some guy who didn’t do a damn thing.”
Trump on multiple occasions claimed that he has resolved at least “eight wars in nine months”. Hence, he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. Among (mostly disputed) claims was that of resolving a crisis between two nuclear-powered nations — India and Pakistan. Despite India’s outright denial of the US having played any role in the ceasefire after Operation Sindoor, Trump has refused to back down.
