The vice-presidential candidates — JD Vance and Tim Walz — have agreed to a debate on October 1, setting up a potential vice-presidential matchup as early voting begins in some states for the US general election.
CBS News announced on its X feed that the network had invited both Vance and Walz to debate in New York City, presenting four potential dates: September 17, September 24, October 1, and October 8.
Walz, the Minnesota Governor, responded to the announcement from his campaign account, saying, “See you on October 1, JD.” The Harris-Walz campaign also commented, stating Walz “looks forward to debating JD Vance — if he shows up.”
On the other hand, Ohio Senator Vance also confirmed on X that he would accept the October 1 invitation and challenged Walz to attend a debate proposed by CNN on 18 September.
The Harris-Walz campaign did not immediately respond to queries about Vance’s acceptance of the earlier debate or whether Walz would participate in that debate on CNN.
The prospect of a debate between Walz and Vance before the November 5 general election had been uncertain.
