The United States on Friday clarified that Pakistan will not receive new Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) under a recently amended contract, amid misleading media reports. In an official statement, the US Embassy and consulates in India said the Department of War’s September 30th announcement referred to “an amendment to an existing Foreign Military Sales contract for sustainment and spares for several countries, including Pakistan.”
The statement mentioned that the modification does not include deliveries of new AMRAAMs or upgrades to Pakistan’s existing capabilities.
The embassy further clarified: “Contrary to false media reports, no part of this referenced contract modification is for deliveries of new Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) to Pakistan.”
The clarification aims to counter misinformation and reaffirm that the contract only covers maintenance support and spare parts for existing systems, not new weapons deliveries.
The Department of War had stated that the contract covers foreign military sales to multiple countries, including the UK, Germany, Israel, Australia, Qatar, Oman, Singapore, Japan, Canada, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Kuwait, Turkiye, and Pakistan, with completion expected by May 2030.
