The 2024 US Presidential campaign is intensifying as a highly anticipated debate looms between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, hosted by ABC News.
This critical showdown will scrutinise the candidates’ policies and could be a game-changer in the election.
The debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump will take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, as reported by ABC News.
The debate is scheduled to air on Tuesday 9 p.m. ET (6:30 a.m. IST on Wednesday) and will last for 90 minutes. ABC News’ David Muir and Linsey Davis will moderate the event, which will be held without a live audience present.
The debate organizers have established clear rules to ensure a structured discussion, as reported by ABC News. Donald Trump won a coin toss, granting him the choice of podium placement and the order of final remarks. Notably, neither candidate will deliver opening statements.
Each candidate will have two minutes to answer questions, followed by two minutes for rebuttals, and an additional minute for further clarification if needed.
To maintain a level playing field, candidates will not have access to pre-written notes, and only basic writing materials and water will be permitted.
Additionally, the topics and questions will remain unknown to the candidates beforehand, and they will not be allowed to directly question each other during the debate.
This debate marks the first direct face-off between Trump and Harris, and given the high stakes, viewers can expect a robust exchange of views.
While the format prohibits face-to-face questioning, both candidates will have opportunities to highlight their policy differences.
The Harris’ team has expressed concerns that the debate format, particularly the muted microphones, might limit their candidate’s engagement, as noted by a letter sent to ABC News.
However, Trump’s campaign has affirmed that they have accepted the debate under the same terms as a previous CNN event.
The debate will air live on ABC News at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday (6:30 a.m. IST on Wednesday), with additional streaming options available on ABC News Live, Disney+, Hulu, and Fox News.
To preview the event, ABC News will present a special program, “Race for the White House,” at 8 p.m. ET.
Given the unique format – no live audience and a strict set of rules – this debate is expected to be a substantive and informative exchange, making it essential viewing for anyone interested in the 2024 US Presidential election.
