US President Donald Trump on Monday said that he will be filing a defamation and libel suit against American newspaper the New York Times for $15 billion in the state of Florida.
Informing about the development, Trump, in a post on Truth Social said, “Today, I have the Great Honor of bringing a $15 Billion Dollar Defamation and Libel Lawsuit against The New York Times, one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in the history of our country, becoming a virtual “mouthpiece” for the Radical Left Democrat Party.”
Without providing any further details, the US president said that the lawsuit would be filed in Florida. The Republican leader pointed out the New York Times’ endorsement of former presidential candidate and Democratic leader Kamala Harris among other concerns.
Trump further accused NYT of lying about him, his businesses and about his family members. He also accused the newspaper of lying about the Republican-led movements and ideologies such as the America First Movement, and Make America Great Again (MAGA). The New York Times is yet to respond to the development.
Trump, in the post, wrote that the New York Times had “been allowed to freely lie, smear, and defame me for far too long.” The statement comes after the US president threatened to sue NYT last week over its reporting related to a sexually suggestive note and drawing given to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In the Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “Their Endorsement of Kamala Harris was actually put dead center on the front page of The New York Times, something heretofore UNHEARD OF! The “Times” has engaged in a decades long method of lying about your Favorite President (ME!), my family, business, the America First Movement, MAGA, and our Nation as a whole.”
Trump called the NYT a “rag” and said that his administration is carrying out litigations against “fake news networks” in the US.
