Donald Trump Appoints Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy For DOGE: President-elect Donald Trump has announced that billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will lead a new Department of Government Efficiency while fulfilling a campaign promise to provide Musk with an oversight of government spending.
In a statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the department would help to “dismantle government bureaucracy” and slash excess regulations.
Musk and Ramaswamy “will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies,” Trump said in a statement.
The department will be known as DOGE in short, which is associated with a cryptocurrency linked to Musk and is also a popular internet meme. Trump also gave a deadline to the department’s work of July 4, 2026 to conclude its work.
Elaborating on his decision, Trump further said: “A smaller Government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence. I am confident they will succeed!”
Before the election, Musk had said that he will help Trump cut $2 trillion from the federal budget. “This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!” Musk said in the statement on Tuesday night.
Musk played a major role in Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign while Ramaswamy, who once ran to become the Republican’s presidential nominee, endorsed former president Donald Trump while exiting the race.
Elon Musk had put his entire weight behind Trump in a way that no business person has done in the past for any Presidential nominee, which included funding his campaign and turning social media platform X into a pro-Trump megaphone.
