The opposition forces have stepped up their ante against the Syrian and Russian personnel as their jets have up the strikes against opposition forces in northern Syria, after rebels took control of country’s second largest city, Aleppo and have advanced, reported CNN.
In a strike on a hospital in Aleppo, close to 12 people died while another strike inside the north-western city of Idlib killed at least eight civilians and more than 50 were wounded, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
The offensive by the rebel forces have also led to the capture of a strategic military base located east of Aleppo and large areas of both Aleppo and Idlib provinces. The sudden attack by the opposition forces has met with less resistance from the regime personnel.
Moreover, it has also come at a time when Syria’s biggest backers, Iran and Russia, have remained engaged in their own conflicts wherein Iran with Israel and Russia with Ukraine.
The White House in a statement said that it was monitoring the situation closely and had nothing to do with the offensive.
A statement added: “The United States, together with its partners and allies, urge de-escalation, protection of civilians and minority groups, and a serious and credible political process that can end this civil war once and for all with a political settlement consistent with UNSCR 2254.”
The rebel group leading the opposition against Syrian regime is designated a terrorist organisation by the US and America’s National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said, “At the same time, of course, we don’t cry over the fact that the Assad government, backed by Russia, Iran and Hezbollah, are facing certain kinds of pressure.”
According to observers, the Syrian forces have lost the control of Aleppo and it is one of the most significant resistance the Syrian regime led by President Bashar al-Assad has faced from the rebel forces led by Islamist militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, reported BBC.
In his first address against the rebel attacks, President Assad vowed the regime will defeat “terrorists and their supporters”
As per the Sky News which quoted Syrian Observatory, at least 327 people, including 44 civilians, have been killed since the offensive began in Syria between rebel forces and regime personnel.
