A tragic shooting outside a nightclub in Indianola, Mississippi, resulted in the death of three people and injured over a dozen early on Sunday, authorities reported.

The incident occurred near the Sunflower County courthouse as a large crowd gathered outside the club.

Indianola Police Chief Ronald Sampson stated that officers were setting up barriers to manage traffic flow when the shooting erupted, as reported by Associated Press.

The three victims, identified by Coroner Heather Burton, were 19-year-old Areon Butler from Indianola, and Cameron Lee Butts and Marquette Baites from Greenville.

Indianola, a town with a population of 9,100, is located in the Delta region of Mississippi, about 100 miles northwest of the state capital, Jackson.

So far, Chief Sampson has not released any additional details about the incident.
