During his visit to China, Putin said on Wednesday he sees “a light at the end of the tunnel” in efforts to resolve the conflict.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Wednesday said that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in any of the seven countries that have so far agreed to host the talks between them, to end the ongoing war.

Sybiha said that Austria, the Vatican, Switzerland, and three Gulf states were ready to host the meeting and “President Zelenskyy is ready for such a meeting at any point in time.”

He also accused Russian President Putin of messing around with everyone by knowingly making unacceptable proposals.

Ready to host Zelenskyy in Moscow: Putin

Sybiha was responding to Putin’s comment, saying he was ready to hold talks with Zelenskyy if the Ukrainian President came to Moscow, while casting doubt on whether such talks would be useful.

During his visit to China, Putin said on Wednesday he sees “a light at the end of the tunnel” in efforts to resolve the conflict. “We’ll see how the situation develops.”

“It seems to me that if common sense prevails, it will be possible to agree on an acceptable solution to end this conflict. That is my assumption,” he said.

The Russian leader added he is ready to host Zelenskyy in Moscow, but noted that the latter’s presidential term had long expired. Putin also added that, according to the Ukrainian constitution, Zelenskyy has no option to extend his powers.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, Trump said, “I’m going to be speaking with him very shortly, and I’ll have a clearer picture of what we’re going to do.”

“We’ve already taken strong action, as you know, and in other ways as well. I’ll be talking to him in the coming days, and we’ll see what comes out of it,” he added.
