Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ takes oath as Nepal’s new Prime Minister

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Prachanda and seven others including three Deputy Prime Ministers, a day after he was supported by 166 members of six different political parties in a House of 275.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda became Nepal’s Prime Minister for the third time on Monday. Striking a deal with multiple parties, mainly the Communist Party of Nepal-unified Marxist Leninist led by KP Sharma Oli — his bitter foe till a week ago.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to Prachanda and seven others including three Deputy Prime Ministers, a day after he was supported by 166 members of six different political parties in a House of 275.

Rabi Lamichhane, Chief of the Rastriya Swatantra Party , Bishnu Poidel (UML) and Narayankaji Shrestha (Maoist Centre) have been inducted as the Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister with Home, Finance and Physical infrastructure respectively.

Rajendra Lingden,Chairman of the Pro Monarchy Rastrya Prajatantra Party declined to join the cabinet as another Deputy Prime Minister saying the party will only extend support from outside.

The constitution puts a ceiling at 25 for the size of the cabinet. More members are expected to join after the parties agree on names and portfolios.

The new cabinet will have to secure vote of confidence within a month from Monday.
