According to Ajman Police, the ban affects all types of electric scooters — both privately owned and rented ones, on all public roads and streets within the emirate.

The Ajman Police Friday, August 15, announced a blanket ban on the use of all types of electric scooters on public roads and streets. The ban, which comes into effect immediately, was announced in response to growing safety concerns and a rise in traffic violations involving e-scooters.

According to Ajman Police, the ban affects all types of electric scooters — both privately owned and rented ones, on all public roads and streets within the emirate. The police also warned of strict actions against violations of the ban, including confiscation of vehicles and fines, though authorities did not immediately specify penalties.

Ajman police advisory against reckless riding

The ban on electric scooters on public roads and streets came a month after the Ajman police issued an advisory asking riders of e-scooters and two-wheelers to follow rules on the road, warning against the use of unauthorised electric bicycles and scooters.

The authorities had also shared a video on social media showing multiple traffic violations being committed by different riders and motorists, including riding without helmets, misusing pedestrian crossings and some even riding on the wrong direction on one-way roads.

Not just Ajman

While Ajman is the first emirate to ban the use of electric scooters on public roads, violations and reckless riding on such vehicles have become a concern across the UAE.
