At least six office bearers of the Amnesty International’s Nepal Chapter have resigned accusing that the Amnesty Headquarter was promoting “secessionism” in Nepal.

The resignation by Amnesty International (AI) vice-president Pratap Poudel, general secretary Dik Prasad Ghimire and treasurer Prabin Agrawal along with three central committee members follows announcement of total “dissociation” from the human rights body by its founder-chairperson (Nepal Chapter) Krishna Pahadi.

They said while the AI international secretariat remained indifferent towards the fast undertaken by Nanda Prasad Adhikari, and his resultant death, without any success in bringing the murderers of his son to justice, it was clearly “siding” with C K Raut who has been campaigning for secession of Nepal.

“We will continue to distance ourselves from the AI until and unless it apologises for its dual standards on human rights and rectifies it,” Pahadi said.
