Earthquake of magnitude 5.7 strikes Indonesian island, GFZ says

Sulawesi, also called Celebes, is a large Indonesian island located where several major tectonic plates meet. This makes it prone to earthquakes, as it has many active fault lines.

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck Sulawesi, Indonesia, on Sunday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said.

The quake was at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), GFZ said.
